Kyriacos Nikiforou Chair

Kyriacos is a second year PhD student in the Computational Neurodynamics Lab, working towards understanding the computational capabilities of Recurrent Neural Networks and improving their capacity and performance. Prior to his PhD research in the Department of Computing he completed his MEng degree in Chemical Engineering at Imperial College. In his free time he enjoys travelling and playing guitar.

Pedro Martinez Mediano Vice Chair

In the early days, and forced by an evil mathematician father, Pedro started a Physics degree at University of Valencia, Spain, truncating what could have otherwise been a promising career as a jazz melodica player. Not satisfied with the punishment of an undergrad in Physics, he moved to the different, but marginally more useful field of Artificial Intelligence and Computational Neuroscience. He somehow sneaked into a PhD program at Imperial College, London, where he found that Artificial Intelligence might be artificial, but is far from being intelligent. He is now doing his little bit to change the last part. He thinks that writing in third person looks cool.

Zhongliu Xie Treasurer

Zhongliu is a final year PhD student working on visual information processing and pattern recognition, where he focuses on biomedical image analysis for morphological anomaly detection, with research under close collaborations with Japan National Institute of Informatics, National Institute of Genetics and RIKEN. Zhongliu holds a BSc Computer Science & Management (First Class) from the University of Nottingham and an MSc Advanced Computing (Distinction) from Imperial College. Prior to PhD he worked as a Research Assistant at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2012.

Fahdi Kanavati Secretary

Eric Seckler Membership Chair

Eric is a first year PhD student in the Experimental Software Systems Group, advised by Alex Wolf. He joined Imperial College in 2014 as MRes/PhD student in the “High-Performance Embedded and Distributed Systems” (HiPEDS) doctoral training program. His research interests include software architecture/engineering, programming languages, and software-defined networking. Before joining Imperial, Eric received BSc and MSc degrees in Software Engineering from the Hasso Plattner Institute at the University of Potsdam, Germany. During his studies, he also visited the University of California in Irvine and interned at Google in Mountain View and Zurich.

Daniel Liew Webmaster

Daniel Liew is a third year PhD student in the Software Reliability group and in the Multicore Programming group Daniel‘s research interests include software verification using symbolic execution and static analysis. He received an MSc in Computing from Imperial College during which he contributed to the KLEE project. Prior to this he studied Physics at the University of Bristol which included an industrial placement with Sharp laboratories of Europe. Daniel’s PhD studies are generously funded by the EPSRC industrial case studentship with ARM.

Alexander L. Wolf Faculty Sponsor

Alex is a professor in the Department of Computing. He received the B.A. degree from Queens College of the City University of New York, majoring in both Geology and Computer Science, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Department of Computer Science at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Alex was a Member of the Technical Staff at AT&T Bell Laboratories (now AT&T Labs Research and Bell Laboratories) in Murray Hill, New Jersey, before joining the faculty of the University of Colorado at Boulder. He helped found the Faculty of Informatics at the University of Lugano, the first computer science faculty in the Italian-speaking region of Switzerland. He joined Imperial College London in 2007. Alex’s research interests span the areas of distributed systems, networking, and software engineering. His achievements include seminal work in software architecture, business analytics, and information-centric networks. He is currently involved in projects having to do with cloud computing, data-center networking, and service-based systems hosted on MANETs. Alex has been a continuous member of ACM since he was a graduate student. He has served as a volunteer for ACM in numerous roles, including Chair of the Special Interest Group in Software Engineering (SIGSOFT), Chair of the SIG Governing Board, and Chair of the Software System Award Committee. He is now serving as President of the ACM.
